Saroja Asthana

Chairperson, Committee for Research and Development
ISB&M School of Technology

The ISB&M School of Technology has a dedicated committee for sponsored research and consultancy under the leadership of Dr. Saroja Asthana, renowned researcher in the field of Environment and Energy studies. She was a contributor to the IPCC which won the Nobel Peace Prize 2007. Our research committee promotes research in Applied Science, Engineering and interdisciplinary areas. We have faculty who have trained and worked at the best of institutes in India and overseas, and are working in diverse areas of technology. They encourage undergraduate research too and this provides exciting opportunities to our students to work on latest technology and meaningful projects.

Communications and Signal Processing

Communications and Signal Processing research area at ISBM School of Technology is part of the E&TC department. The research activities of this field are focused around mathematical modelling, optimization and simulation of advanced signal processing algorithms for reliable signal transmission and reception in a variety of communication systems. The algorithm development in this area impacts, for example, how we communicate through cellular phones, Wi-Fi networks, the way we build intelligent and self organizing wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring, battlefield surveillance and healthcare.

Software Engineering, Simulation and e-Learning

Development of Management Information Systems, ERP implementation, Process definition, modelling and process management are key skills that this research area is building up. Gaming, simulation, animation and e-learning systems is another area that is supported on the back of research being carried out in software engineering, software architecture and latest development in web and computing technology.

Product Development, Manufacturing and Product Lifecycle Management

Research activities in this area centre around new product development strategies, processes and management, developments in manufacturing technology and the development of systems and processes for Product Lifecycle Management. Though the group draws mainly from Mechanical Engineering, it is surely evolving into a multi-disciplinary team involving electronics, computer, manufacturing, mechanical and management experts. R&D expertise is available in Digital Product Development, Simulation, CAD/CAM/CAE and PLM implementation.

Energy and Environment

This research area focuses on energy conservation, green technologies and smart urban systems. The consulting focus is on water resources and non-conventional energy sources and green technologies for urban systems development and pollution control in process industries.

New Materials and Process Technologies

The field of New Materials and Process Technologies encompasses the broad disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering by providing a platform for multidisciplinary activities across these fields. This research area effectively provides a bridge between bulk material & atomic or molecular structures. Materials like novel polymeric materials, nanomaterials for photovoltaic applications, and design and synthesis of advanced biomaterials and DNA for the treatment of human diseases are the focus of this field in ISBM School of Technology.

Bio-medical Engineering

It is a highly inter-disciplinary area bridging the areas of biology, medicine and engineering. The needs of healthcare are rising exponentially with time. Solutions are being sought that could provide more affordable and improved medication to patients, as well as more user friendly and effective tools for the healthcare providers. Faculty have expertise in the design and development of medical devices and equipment, joint and limb prostheses and biochemical synthesis. Capabilities of faculty who have expertise in other research areas are also being harnessed to provide better materials development, communication systems, software solutions and logistics for the biomedical industry.
